This Internet of Things is physically closed to the user - with small embedded sensors/actuators - but suffers from weak run-time execution environments. Conversely Cloud Environments virtualize and provide powerful data storage and computing power but can not be easily accessed and integrate the final- user context-awareness. We believe that the latest generation of mobile telephones are universal interface between these two worlds. Existing approaches typically use an ad hoc architectures and a predefined execution environments and focus only on the optimization between the phone and the cloud.
We propose a service-oriented middleware approach where smartphones provide service gateways to bridge the gap between IoT services and Cloud services. We choose the service paradigm to benefit a low coupling between interface, implementation, and service invocation.
